I wish to greet the Bishop of Suwon, Most Rev. Matthias RI Iong-hoon, for allowing me to concelebrate at this Mass. I wish to thank Mons. Peter Byeong for this invitation to be with you all on this feast of St. John the Baptist.
찬미예수님! 무엇보다도 이 미사를 함께 봉헌하도록 해주신 수원 교구장 이용훈 마티아 주교님께 감사드립니다. 또한 요한 세례자 축일에 여러분과 함께 할 수 있도록 저를 초대해 주신 변기영 베드로 몬시뇰께도 감사의 말씀을 드립니다.
This place always fills me with a spiritual feeling of praise to the Almighty God – I saw and visited the memorials and tombs of the early christians of Korea, who lived here, and many later died for the faith, and now are buried here. I am edified by the lives of the early Catholics in Korea – just like the lives of the early Christians in the catacombs in Rome. They were full of faith, and hope and trust in the Providence of God. Their love for the Gospel was their highest value.
이 곳 천진암은 항상 저를 전능하신 하느님께 기도하는 영적 느낌으로 가득 차게 합니다. 저는 이곳에서 살다가 신앙 때문에 돌아가셨으며 이제는 이 자리에 잠들어계신 초기 한국 그리스도교 신자들을 기억하며 그분들의 묘소를 방문하였습니다. 저는 로마 지하묘지인 카타꼼바에서 살았던 초대 그리스도교인들의 삶에서처럼, 한국 천주교 창립 선조들의 생애에서 많은 것을 배웁니다.그들은 하느님의 섭리에 대한 믿음과, 희망, 그리고 신앙으로 가득 차있었습니다. 복음에 대한 그들의 사랑이 바로 그들이 추구하는 최고의 가치였습니다.
It is these holy places like CHON JIN AM where the Holy Spirit, like a new Pentecost, is infused on holy persons, with the courage for the faith and the true love of God.. Today, we commemorate lives of the early catholics here in Korea and the supreme sacrifice they offered, like St. John the Baptist, who is our first martyr of the faith.
마치 새로운 성령강림처럼, 하느님께 대한 신앙과 진실한 사랑을 대담하게 드러내도록 하기 위하여 거룩한 사람들 위에 성령께서 내리시는 곳이 바로 이 곳 천진암 거룩한 곳입니다. 오늘, 우리는 이곳에서 한국 천주교 창립 선조들의 삶을 기념하고 있습니다. 또한 첫 순교자인 요한 세례자처럼 그들이 보여준 최고의 희생을 기념하고 있습니다.
I am also very glad to greet the descendants of these early catholics of the Catholic Faith in Korea, here in Chon Jin Am. Here with you I feel the presence of the holy Martyrs themselves. I feel the presence of the Holy Spirit in each one of you. In you I see the past, the present and the future of the Church in Korea. In you, descendants of the martyrs, I see the line of faith, that is passed on to many generations. I know God loves you most especially.
저는 또한 이곳 천진암에서 초기 한국 그리스도교 신자들의 후손인 여러분을 만나게 되어 매우 기쁩니다. 저는 이곳에서 거룩한 순교자들이 여러분과 함께 하심을 느낍니다. 그리고 여러분 각자 위에 오신 성령의 존재를 느낍니다. 여러분 안에서, 저는, 한국 교회의 과거와 현재 그리고 미래를 바라봅니다. 순교자의 후손인 여러분 안에서 여러 세대를 통하여 내려온 신앙의 뿌리를 봅니다. 저는 하느님께서 여러분을 매우 특별하게 사랑하시는 것을 압니다.
Today is a very special day for me, and I feel honored and edified spiritually. Here in this sacred place, we feel the presence of Jesus, protecting his Church in Korea – Here we feel the presence of the Holy Spirit, protecting and guiding us all, Bishops, priests, religious and lay people in our mission for the Gospel Truth..
오늘은 제게 매우 특별한 날로서 영광스럽고 제 자신이 영적으로 깊어지는 것을 느낍니다. 이 곳 성지에서 우리는 당신의 한국 교회를 보호하시는 예수님의 존재를 느낍니다. 이곳에서 우리는 주교, 신부, 수도자, 평신도 모두를 포함하여 복음적 진리를 따르는 우리 모두를 보호하시고 이끄시는 성령의 존재를 느낍니다.
This year is special, because the Holy Father has declared it to be Year of Faith.Our Faith is more than just a devotion, it is more than just a respect of a beautiful image, or statue or a memorable history of the Bible – Faith is a personal encounter with the person of Jesus Christ, who came to save us, to make us one like him.
올해는 특별한 해입니다. 왜냐하면 교황님께서 올해를 신앙의 해로 선포하셨기 때문입니다. 우리의 신앙은 헌신 그 이상의 것입니다.
아름다운 그림이나 성상, 또는 성경에 나오는 기억할만한 역사에 대한 존경 그 이상의 것입니다. 신앙은 우리를 구원하여 우리를 당신처럼 하나가 되도록 우리에게 오신, 사람이 되신 예수 그리스도의 인격과 인격적으로 만나는 것입니다.
For the Holy Father, the fulfillment of our activity in faith is the personal encounter with Jesus Christ. “We are here together because we believe in God’s love”(Enc. God is love). The love of God and neighbor is beautiful gift to a modern world which seems to have lost a truly human heart.
교황님께는, 신앙 안에서 이루어지는 우리 활동의 완성은 예수 그리스도와의 개인적인 만남입니다. ‘하느님은 사랑이시다’라는 회칙에서 이렇게 말씀하십니다. “우리는 여기에 함께 왔습니다. 왜냐하면 우리는 하느님의 사랑을 믿기 때문입니다.” 하느님께 대한 사랑과 이웃에 대한 사랑은 인간의 진심어린 마음을 잃어가는 것처럼 보이는 현대 사회에 베푸는 아름다운 선물이 될 것입니다.
The celebration of the Year of Faith is therefore intended to contribute to a renewed conversion to the Lord Jesus and to the rediscovery of the beauty of faith in Him, so that the members of the Church will be credible and joy-filled witnesses to the Risen Lord in the world of today - capable of leading those many people who are seeking it to the “door of faith”, who is Jesus Christ himself.
그러므로 신앙의 해를 기념하는 것은 예수 그리스도께로 새롭게 바뀌고 또 주님 안에서 신앙의 아름다움을 다시 발견하도록 협력하는 것을 의미 합니다. 그래서 모든 그리스도교 신자들은 현대 세계에서 부활하신 주님을 믿게 만들고, 즐거움으로 가득 찬 증인이 되어야 합니다. 이는 예수 그리스도 자신인 “신앙의 문” 을 찾는 많은 사람들을 인도 할 수 있어야 한다는 것을 의미합니다.
Christian living is learned in an intense relationship with Jesus Christ. Through his love, Jesus Christ attracts to himself the people of every generation. He has entrusted to the Church the proclamation of the Gospel by a mandate that is always new. The message of the Gospel must always be new – in life, in vigor and in methods.
신앙인의 삶은 예수그리스도와의 친밀한 관계 안에서 성장됩니다.
그분의 사랑을 통해서 예수 그리스도께서는 모든 세대의 사람을 그분께로 이끄십니다. 주님께서는 복음 선포의 일을 항상 새롭게 교회에 맡기셨습니다. 복음의 메시지는 삶 안에서, 효과와 방법 면에서 항상 새롭게 되어야 합니다.
In concrete, Pope Benedict XVI asks from all Christians a stronger commitment to new evangelization in order to rediscover the joy of believing and the enthusiasm for communicating the faith.
구체적으로 베네딕트 16세 교황님께서는, 신앙을 고백하는 열정과 믿음의 즐거움을 회복하기 위해서, 모든 신자들이 새로운 복음 전파에 더 강하게 전념하도록 요청하셨습니다.
The celebration of the Year of Faith always brings us back to the early Church in Korea – for them the Faith was alive and strong. They offered sacrifices and hardships. This brings us back to St. John the Baptist, to the early Christians in the catacombs in Rome. The Church will continue to live and flourish because of the sacrifices of our martyrs.
신앙의 해를 지내는 것은 항상 우리를 한국의 초대 교회 모습으로 되돌아가게 합니다. 그들에게 있어서 신앙은 살아있는 것이었으며, 강력한 것이었습니다. 그들은 희생하고 고초를 겪었습니다. 신앙선조들의 삶은 로마 지하묘지인 카타콤바안에서 살았던 초대 그리스도인들과 요한 세례자를 되돌아보게 합니다. 우리 순교자들의 희생 덕분에 우리 교회는 계속해서 존재할 것이며, 성장할 것입니다.
This is also our challenge today. May the feast of St. John the Baptist and of the Martyrs of Korea give us the courage to be strong in the practice of our faith. AMEN
이것이 바로 오늘날 우리의 도전 과제입니다. 요한 세례자와 한국 순교자들의 축일을 맞이하여, 신앙을 실천할 수 있는 강한 용기를 주시도록 하느님께 청합시다. 아멘.
